Avecilla Roof in SE Portland
Mr. Avecilla is an 87-year-old widower who has lived in his multigenerational Southeast Portland home for the past 25 years. As the years have passed, maintaining his 1960s-era home has become increasingly difficult.
He recently reached out to Community Energy Project (CEP) for assistance with several critical home repair needs, including a leaking roof that has caused structural rot, a red-tagged furnace with a cracked heat exchanger that created a carbon monoxide risk, and inadequate insulation throughout the home.
CEP was able to secure funding to address several of these needs, but replacing the roof remained a significant challenge. To help bridge that gap, CEP partnered with Catalyst NW and Peak Performance Roofing to make this project possible.
Completing the roof replacement is a critical first step. Once the roof is secure, CEP will be able to address attic damage, install insulation, and replace the heating system, ensuring that Mr. Avecilla can continue living safely, comfortably, and independently in the home he loves.
This project will take place over three days and will include two volunteer shifts each day:
Morning Shift: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Afternoon Shift: 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Lunch will be provided from 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM for volunteers from both shifts.

Due to the nature of this project, volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate. Opportunities will be available both on the roof and as part of the ground support team, allowing volunteers of varying skill levels and abilities to serve.
